In July this year (2019), I spent a week in the Lake District drawing and observing the local wildlife. On my first day of drawing I was drizzled on by a passing rain cloud so diverted into St John’s church in St John’s in the Vale. On my way through the graveyard I saw a bumblebee on a bright flower. The colours and dedication of the bee on the flower in the rain stood out to me so I pulled up a pew and got to work myself.
